A Great Grab n’ Go Place

Location:

Jarvis & Richmond

Notes of Interest:

Been standing since 1993

What we ordered:
  • Sesame Bagel w/ Ham, Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato & Coffee – $6.00
  • Sesame Bagel w/ Egg, Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato & Black Tea – $6.00

Total damage to wallet – $12 flat, cash

Thoughts:

Prices here are insane; better than fast food chains. The mom and pop that run this place day in and day out are exactly as they present themselves – direct but friendly, quick witted, know their value and unafraid to work hard and serve. The decor, quite frankly, would be considered retro even when they opened in 1993, plastered with family photos of their history of their customers. The food is better than fast food, which is who they compete with. It’s no frills but also no shrinkflation. The money you spend doesn’t go to corporate marketing or laminated menus – it goes to the ingredients and probably negative operating margins. Ham and Cheese is yummy; (Hard Boiled) Egg and Cheese is a bit of a slippery affair and maybe a bit underseasoned. They got lots of other options though – I’ve had the strawberry rhubarb muffin before, patties seem popular, salads seem like not an overpriced lunch option… Seating inside is minimal, but it’s prob best to scarf it down while you’re there.
